Plasma Donations Have Meaning and Purpose: Inspiring Visit to BioLife Plasma Center in Sheboygan, WI

BioLife Plasma Services Assistant Manager Jennifer Mares, IDF volunteer Bill Hindin and Regional Marketing Representative Cassie Murray at BioLife Plasma Center in Sheboygan, WI June 25.

“To see their faces light up when I explained the life saving donations they give is priceless,” says Immune Deficiency Foundation volunteer Bill Hindin, “It gives their donations meaning and purpose.”

Bill spoke to plasma donors at the BioLife Plasma Center in Sheboygan, WI June 25. He truly enjoys this type of community outreach.

“I volunteer my time simply because it feels great to let the donors and staff know what a godsend they are to our community,” explains Bill, “This awareness makes their jobs have meaning … Our community can’t thank them enough.”

BioLife Plasma Services Assistant Manager Jennifer Mares and Regional Marketing Representative Cassie Murray welcomed Bill to the center, which he visited once before in 2010. Touring the facility showed him how they take extreme care to ensure that the donations are carefully logged and processed.

Bill found that his discussions with staff members were very rewarding, “After presenting the ABCs of our disease and talking about my experiences, there were some terrific questions. They had a keen interest in our disease and what life is like living with it.”

Longtime IDF Volunteer Gail Nelson Visits Octapharma Plasma Center in Monroe, LA

Octapharma Plasma Center (Monroe, LA) Director Cynthia Boyd, IDF volunteer Gail Nelson and Octapharma Regional Director Stuart Aucoin, June 6.

Gail Nelson of Shreveport, LA devotes time to the Immune Deficiency Foundation whenever she is needed and has done so for many years. On June 6, Gail and her husband, Syd, visited the Octapharma Plasma Center in Monroe, LA, but this was not the first visit for Gail. In fact she was among the first group of patients to tour plasma centers years ago. “We did not get to visit with the donors nor did we get to speak with the entire staff,” explains Gail of her early plasma center trips.

But now, through the IDF Plasma Center Partners Program, patients like Gail go to their local plasma center specifically to meet donors and staff and to tell their stories. IDF arranges the visits, and many volunteers are stepping up and taking time out of their schedules to recognize the vital work of plasma centers.

“This is such an easy thing for volunteers to do,” says Gail, “The donors seemed to appreciate being thanked—and several asked questions … It was definitely one of those ‘feel good’ visits!”

Staff of the Octapharma Plasma Center in Monroe, LA.

Thank you to Gail and Syd for your continued support of IDF! To Octapharma Plasma Centers in Monroe and across the country – keep up the good work!

John Guntkowski with staff at CSL Plasma in Port St. Lucie, FL

John Guntkowski, a volunteer for the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF), had a great time at his visit to CSL Plasma in Port St. Lucie, FL. “It was my first Plasma Center trip and the building was extremely new and clean,” explains John. “They do everything right there from beginning to end.” He said that the staff members were super nice; they had organized a lunch, a welcome cake and a few gifts for John.

“I got a little choked up when I talked to the staff and donors about ‘my story’ when it hit me with everything they do to help people not only with primary immunodeficiency diseases but also many other patients who need plasma for other various reasons.” John is excited to return to the center for different events and fundraisers.

Thank you, John and CSL Plasma Port St. Lucie!
